Land Use and Zoning for the Buckeye Neighborhood
For my Studio 2 at Penn, I worked with eleven of my classmates to study, design, and propose an Afro-futurist redevelopment plan for the Buckeye neighborhood (rebranded as “BESE” in this plan) on the eastside of Cleveland, OH. I led the land use and zoning section of the plan, bringing together the economic development, transportation, and streetscapes section into one overarching future land use strategy. We proposed an application of Cleveland’s new Form-Based Code tailored to the neighborhood, optimizing the benefits of the city’s push to eliminate parking minimums in favor of transit-oriented development. Our client, Burten, Bell, Carr Development, left with deep existing conditions research and readily implementable ideas for the neighborhood’s next chapter.
